When I visit schools kids like to ask me questions.
Here are some of the most Frequently
Asked
Questions:
Q: How old are you?
A: (3x7)+(4x4)+12+9
Q: What year were you born?
A: If you know my age, you can figure it out. Hint: my birthday
is in January.
Q: Where do you live?
A: Near Portland, Oregon, but in Washington state.
Q: Are you rich?
A: Not even close!
Q: Have you ever met Wishbone?
A: No, but I want to.
Q: Do you ever get frustrated when you write?
A: Yes! I think writing books for kids is the best job in the
world, but it isn't always easy. In fact, I'd say it's never easy. But
I have so much fun creating characters and plots--and visiting real kids
in schools--that it's worth it.
Q: What was your most difficult book to write?
A: Stage Invader
Q: Why?
A: It was my first mystery book. Halfway through the book my
editor and I knew the story wasn't working. I threw it out and started
over.
Q: Of all the books you've written, which is your favorite?
A: I have a favorite for each age group--picture book, early
chapter book, and novel--but I'd rather not say.
Q: Why?
A: Because I want kids to read the books that sound the most
interesting to THEM, not the ones I like the best.
Q: What is your all time favorite children's book?
A: Charlotte's Web, by E.B. White. I've read it many times and
I still love it.
Q: Do you think you'll always be a writer?
A: Yes--I hope so!
Now I will ask you a question:
Where am I in your school? I quietly
slip inside, get what I want, yet leave with my arms empty. Still
I'm richer than before. Where am I?
